1891 census in London with grandparents. His single mother is almost certainly a daughter of Abel & Jane Darlington, probably Louisa who would have been 22 when he was born. It looks as if his brother is Charles Ivanhoe Darlington. Louisa never married and spent much time in Mental Hospitals
1895 He attends Brighton Rd Poor Law School. Their registers says his mother is dead

In WW1 there is only 1 Henry Ernest Darlington, but I cannot be sure it is him. #049198 in ASC , enlisted 30 Jul 1915, discharged 8 Jul 1919
